The Pilates Method
Imagine an exercise program that you look forward to, that engages you, and leaves you refreshed and alert with a feeling of physical and mental well-being.
The Pilates Method will do all this… and more!
Developed in the 1920’s, by Joseph Pilates, while working as a nurse during World War I. He began designing exercises for immobilized patients by attaching springs to their hospitals beds. This innovation later evolved into the machines we know today as the Cadillac and the Reformer. Both machines provide hundreds of different exercises all utilizing Joseph Pilates’ major principles.
The Pilates Method’s six major principles are:
1. Breath
2. Concentration
3. Centering
4. Control
5. Flow
6. Precision
The Pilates Method is challenging, requiring proper body control and form. As a result, a mind/body connection is discovered.
